Email
counselling is more about advice and information. It
is limited in that is not possible to
build a client-counsellor relationship. And
life's
problems are influenced by many interwoven factors, so
it might be difficult
for you to define the issues you need help with. And
it
is open to misinterpretation.
The
advantages, however, are many.
 |
Writing
about your problems can be therapeutic in itself. And,
you can express
yourself at exactly the right time for you, night or day. |
 |
If
you are managing your problem, you might simply require professional
"affirmation". |
 |
Problems
can feel overwhelming, another perspective might be all you need to
clarify your situation. Email counselling can save you time and money. |
 |
You
can read and re-read my response in the privacy of your own home, in
your own time. You can reflect on my ideas before you respond. (unlike
the time constraints of face to face work). |
 |
It
may be easier for you to disclose information about your experience,
anonymously. |
 |
You
may not have friends or family who can be objective enough to be
helpful. |
 |
You
do not have to wait for appointments, or travel, or become a
"patient". |
If
your problems are major, please respect them and see your Doctor or a
Therapist, in person.

If
you wish to use this service you might choose to use the symptom checklist
below in your first email. Or, define how the problem is affecting you:
maybe your personal growth, your health, your relationships, your mental
functioning, your work? Try to define your problem to one or two
questions. An email response will arrive as soon as possible, within 72
hrs. It might be useful to tell me your age, and what medications you
are taking.
|
If
you'd like to email me in the future you could write more about yourself:
your age, your interests, your job, for example. I shall then have a better
understanding of you and a confidential record which I can refer to
anytime.
Please
understand, if you tell me you are seriously considering harming yourself or
another person, I am obliged to break our confidentiality.......please seek
help. Page 4 of the yellow pages lists free services.
